This elegant building is thought to have been the residence of the Consul General of the Consulate of Portugal during the rubber boom years in Manaus. The building has been carefully and totally restored to its 19th Century sophistication. While retaining the beauty and elegance of the Belle Époque, the building is also thoroughly modern with fully renewed electrical and plumbing systems, modern and stylish bathrooms, and installation systems for split system air-conditioning. The upper floor and lower floors have separate entrances. The lower floor opens onto a small private area at the back of the building.
The upper floor consists of a large salon facing the street Rua Sete de Setembro, a large room at the back, a large entry salon the full depth of the building, and a restored kitchen and bathroom. There are high ceilings (over 4 meters high) and beautiful wood details typical of the Belle Époque. At the front of the building there are balconies that overlook the garden and restaurant of the Museu da Cidade Manaus. The decorative wooden floors are made of the noble woods Pau Amarello and Sucupira Preta in lovely alternating colors of yellow and deep dark brown.
The lower floor has two large rooms connected by a hallway that runs the depth of the building. The floors have been fully redone with new tiles and the ceilings have been fully replaced with the decorative noble wood Angelim. The original hand hewn beams have been left exposed and reinforced in order to retain the charm of the early years of Manaus, but at the same time create the stylish ambience of modern and tasteful style of living. The building is only one block from access to the Rio Negro.
